Art & Soul creates positive impact for local young people's mental health

Art & Soul have been able to support more young people locally needing mental health support through our unique programme of therapeutic art workshops and exhibition opportunities.

Three courses of workshops, led by experienced artist Diana Burch, have been carried out with young people attending Tier 3 CAMHS (Children and Adolescent Mental Health Services) and at a local secondary school.

Young people aged 11-17 attended and explored everything from plasticine modelling and acrylic painting to 3D collage sculptures and working with fabric.

Artwork was then displayed as part of our Inner Transformations exhibition at St Mary's Church in June.

Feedback from the groups was overwhelmingly positive, with some comments from young people who attended the sessions below:

“I made something I like and got out of the house”

"I don’t think anything could have been better, it was very fun"

“I liked talking to everyone as everyone was very nice. The art was interesting and fun to do"

Speaking on the sessions, CAMHS professionals have said:

"These groups are so fantastic for our young people, and they give us wonderful feedback

about them. As clinicians we thoroughly enjoy joining the groups as well. As a team, it is so

clear that you take time to get to know the young people, reflect and are mindful to meet the

needs of each individual where possible. Thank you so much for continuing to work with us.”

With thanks to our supporters, the Richmond Parish Lands Charity and Hampton Fund, for making these sessions possible.
